A diode is an electronic device designed to permit the flow of current in one direction, functioning as a one-way gate for electric current. It conducts current either in the forward or reverse direction, making it essential in various applications such as oscillators, rectifiers, signal modulators and demodulators, switches, and voltage regulators. The diode consists of two electrodes, anode and cathode, where the anode has high resistance to current flow in one direction, and the cathode has low resistance in the other direction.
